Can I run this with the Cobb intake tube? Thanks.
Curious of this answer as well 🤔
Various tests (Australia, Europe, US...) prove that you are NOT correct. Nowadays, Intakes are so advance that we talk about a very few HPs added. Basically, the investment is NOT worth.
q
Hey I'm Perrin kk sa mercedes benz
Another quick question: what difference does the spring weight make, exactly?
As far as the spring rate goes, it does not affect performance but it will make a difference to drive ability.
@@PERRINPerformance Can you give me a sense of what that difference is? IIUC, the spring holds the valve shut and the vacuum opens the valve, so if my reasoning is correct, the “track” spring will hold boost longer? What does that feel like to drive on the street? PS: I really appreciate your answers. Thanks again!
Other than warranty, what do I *lose* by going to a mechanical diverter valve? Is there a technical advantage to the ECU-controlled system?
There really is no trade off. The biggest benefit is durability/longevity without the potential of leaks like the OEM part.
@@PERRINPerformance Thanks for your answer! I’m guessing the reason Subaru has an electronic waste gate is the usual “it’s cheap(er)”?
what about for the non foam filters that i got with my perrin cold air intake?
For most filters it’s the same process, the major difference is that you won’t use any oil. You can still use a mild cleaner and go through all the same steps just don’t apply any oil to it. You can find dry-flow filter cleaning kits the same as you can get foam filter kits as well.
So the benefits of this part is to obviously prevent boost leak, but what does that actually mean? I don’t care about better hp/performance, what im curious to know is this part supposed to be healthier for the turbo or is it just made for more power/performance?
The big plus side is the added performance how ever since it is fixing a leak, it does mean that the turbo will not have to work as hard in turn leading to better longevity of the turbo.
Which one of these would i pair with A RAE motorsports intake
Do you guys make a jpipe?
A J pipe…..hmmmmmm
Here’s a question, I’m currently running a DMann 93 tune and an e85 tune when I want to have fun. All the fun bolt-ons, too. How would installing this affect the current e85 tune I have, which is pushing about 23 PSI? Would I need to call the tuner to retune even if it’s mechanical?
Sounds like you got a fun toy! No tuning required! It’ll run nice and smooth with your tune and its current PSI.
@@PERRINPerformance what about this combined with your turbo inlet pipe? I’m assuming direct fit, no issues? Any tuning for the pipe?
Are there no O2 sensors on the OEM pipe at all? I thought there was for some reason. Is it just the 2 sensors that are on the OEM J pipe that will cause the CEL light if you replace with aftermarket?
That pipe is two parts, the first being the main cat and sensor while this one is a secondary cat and not monitored.
Hold on there’s no sensors I don’t see any I’m confused front up I have an sti so there’s down pipe up pipe cat back wth
The downpipe on the VB is two parts, the first cat section and the one they just installed.
@@djdigdugg I get that get where’s the sensor the all th way in the front
Do you need a tune with this and can I install it with my turbo smart blow of?
As per the majority of all of are parts this does not require a tune, making it a simple bolt on upgrade. Unfortunately, if you’re already running the Turbosmart bov than this will not work. The Turbosmart bov and our diverter valve replace the same oem part.
@@PERRINPerformance yea sorry I was thinking of my sti when I wrote this I meant my new 2024 Wrx vb
How often do we clean it?
That will sort of depend on what sort of area you live in/conditions. Typically every 15k-20k miles; some will say more some might say less. In normal driving conditions its easy to just check it and clean it once a year. If you drive in really dusty conditions all the time you'll probably want to clean it more often.
Well, why did Subaru engineers put that "Boost leak" in there?
The venturi is for creating vacuum on the EVAP system under full throttle. It was not on previous generations due to emissions rules. Manufactures need a way to create vacuum on the EVAP system to test for leaks to control fuel vapors entering the atmosphere. Emissions regulations have changed to where they need to be able to test this under light load and high load conditions, where before, they only needed to test it under light load. In older cars during light load, the intake manifold vacuum provided enough for the testing to occur. Subaru had to come up with a way to create enough vacuum under high load for the same testing to occur and this was their answer. Most likely Subaru upsized the turbo to make up for the loss of efficiency and still hit their HP targets. I think this is one of the reasons why we are seeing really awesome HP from the current gen WRX’s.
Great video, I was about to do this soon so the video came at a great time!
Well great! its not easy being clairvoyant🤣
The intake sounds phenomenal I just got mine yesterday I couldn’t be more happy. Took me about 2 hours to install mostly because I didn’t have a gear wrench I only had a socket. Much love. Sounds so much louder than I thought
Glad you're loving it! Sorry to hear it took you sometime to install.
Does this make the intake noises sound better? If so do you have sound clips?
it does give a more typical pshhh sound.
Make a version without the cat and cut the price in half, you’ll sell more. Your argument/reasoning for the cat is a moot point. There’s no O2 sensor connected to that cat, it’s not rocket science. No one cares about striving to meet epa regulations and guidelines. We want competitively priced mods that offer multifaceted benefits. Not overpriced mods with additional components no one asked for. Disappointed in Perrin with this one, the entire vb community is scratching their heads. The smart thing to do would be to offer this as a catless front pipe with an additional front Jpipe section as an add on for people who want a full j pipe.
How’s about y’all get off of Subaru’s nuts and start making parts for the Corolla GR. You’re wasting your potential catering so much to Subaru.. and I have five of them that have y’all parts on them.
Sooooooo.... How many GR Corollas do you have?🤔
@@PERRINPerformance one. How many do you need to make parts for it? What kind of question is that?
@@PERRINPerformance making me regret buying parts from you guys if you’re trying to be a smart ass dumbass.
I got rid of my 23 gr when trans blew at 400 torque my 23 wrx runs same power that did cost far less to make that power an my trans is still fine with 4 times the miles on it the the gr
Lol obviously there are more people with wrx’s than gr’s so more business with the wrx than the gr. What a baby.
Why add an expensive secondary cat if it plays no role in throwing a CEL? Save that expense for the primary cat and offer a cheaper front pipe
We strive ourselves to make a great OEM+ part on top of the fact that due to EPA standards we have to make sure we have the proper EPA approved cat. I understand this seems like an unnecessary added cost but it assures that no one, both retailer and consumer get hit the large fines.
Mine won't go on all the way. I have tried everything but it just won't go down. 23 wrx limited.
It is possible that you have an older o-ring that we no longer use due to that exact issue. Reach out to tech@perrrin.com and they'll get you a knew o-ring that will work and fix the issue!
can you make subdued logos? can you make smaller logos?
I mean sure... i guess we could.
Both Perrin downpipes I have worked with both leaked from slipjoint fitting. Didnt matter how it was tightened, rotated or whatever. Sure enough, they pulled the EJ downpipe off the store.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. However we took down the EJ downpipe because the EPA came out with newer regulations and the cat was not approved.
Ok stupid noob Subaru owner questions 1) does this cap keep the area the oil filter goes clean and dry 2) does this affect (raise) oil temperature
Noob maybe...stupid never! This cover will keep the area clean and dry, it has a nice o-ring that creates a good seal and it will not raise oil temps.
Appreciate you guys addressing the comments/concerns. J pipe teaser!!!
We try our best to answer all comments and make sure we can help everyone out! Oh and I have no idea what you're talking about😏
Love the fact that it retains a cat. Thank you for coming out with this video.
I'm more of a dog person myself but cats are good to have.
❤
back at ya ❤️
It is so awesome that you are addressing things in the comments section really quickly like this. One more thing about the I-Pipe. Since you retained a high flow cat in the pipe, this shouldn't add as much noise as some of the other aftermarket options. Can you describe how much louder the cold starts are/ highway drone? Can you do a before vs after decibel reading of the sound? Right now, my phone is reading 105 db with just my Borla.
Thanks! really appreciate the feed back. I can say it will not be much louder than the stock pipe, just ever so slightly. Exhaust videos are tricky as the mics never do much justice to the exhaust tone itself. With that said though, we plan on making an exhaust video for the different exhaust options we offer for the 22+ I will make note to do a decibel reading as well that we can put on our website.
Thanks for answer my question! Loving the videos so far, can't wait to see more install videos if you plan on doing it in the future. Would definitely like to see a top mount install video for the VB.
Of course! thanks for hearing us out and providing a good question to answer. We are getting into the swing of motion as far as installs go so there will be more and more to come.
LOL Jeff with the jpipe teaser
What!?
Perrin! Full stop, love these style vlogs. Jeff for president!
Alright, well see about getting him on the ballot😄
Hope That Fits In My ‘22 Legacy
Sure does! What color are you gonna get?
I’ve installed the diverter valve not that hard plus pretty much everything else bolt on they sell if anyone has questions
Will Perrin offer rotated/BRZ intake manifold hardware for the VB? IBR is kinda flaky whenever I ask them about the VB.
Were looking into it, the good ol' boys over at the EPA aren't a huge supporter☹️
@@PERRINPerformance Just call it a throttle body spacer kit. Tons of companies sell those worthless things and the EPA doesn’t seem to care.
Do y'all sell only the mid pipe, to turn it into cat back later??
hmmmmm... we might. reach out to sales@perrin.com and we can work something out!😏
Cover for the cold air intake?
its on our to do list for sure!
Love mine
Oh phew 😮💨 not sure how you couldn’t like it though!
@PERRINPerformance I have a perrin one just to be clear, I do infact like it. I guess I wasn't clear but I was being positive 👍👍👍
i understood ya loud and clear!
Man this was so awesome! I am happy to hear the yellow boost tubes are coming out, but I still am afraid to do FMIC because of the tampering of the safety equipment- maybe ya'll can find a way to route it while leaving the bumper parts in place? It might be impossible.
well like we said well be making a front mount intercooler protector but that well not be crash rated. A good second option is our top mount! you'll still get substantial performance gains without the need to remove any safety equipment.
Are you forsure going to offer lust the front pipe later to complete the downpipe cause id be interested in yours over the over i was looking at then
We have a prototype that we are testing out. The CEL has been a real gremlin so we aren't cutting any corners and are making sure we run all the tests we can to make sure no CELs are thrown.
I love this! Jeff, lmk when youre ready for me to become partner at Perrin so I can move up there and make videos with you 😂
Go buy a rain coat, we got a desk right here for ya!😄
Like others have said, would prefer to see a single piece design. Would really prefer to see this intermediate pipe with a j pipe package, 2 pieces max...
What studies have been done with your intake and temps? Seeing that its "open box" Do you see the temps increasing over the stock box or other "closed box" systems? For the top mounter intercooler what do you think about adding heat tape the do the bottom of the in tanks to help cut down heat coming from the engine?
Welcome back @CRMAG87 as far as open vs closed vs stock your maybe looking at a 2° temperature change. However specifically to the stock box, because it’s plastic it does take longer to cool down after getting warm. In regard to putting heat tape on the end tanks… it is unnecessary because the temperature on the hot side of the end tank is around 50° hotter than the temperature of the engine bay. With that said, it will do no harm so if you’d like to have at it!
@@PERRINPerformance thanks for the updates on that. Trying to make my final decision on the Company and parts to go with for parts with my car since I want a good long daily but with some added fun.
I wish instead of just install why not after install show us sound clips…..
There will be an another video of its own to showcase the sound.
I would prefer to see it as one pipe.Maybe two too many separations for leaks.
Came here to say this. It doesn’t make sense to build it this way.
Honestly I ordered mid pipe from RAE-Motorsports and it’s one piece and half the price
@@AdrianMartinez-xl2bb I have a catback on order from Rae right now. Hoping it’ll be here soonish. Glad to know you had a positive experience with the Intermediate.
C'mon guys. For a high end brand to use a butt clamp... couldve used a vband or a 2 bolt flange for the price point...
$1K for an intermediate pipe 😥
No sound clip 😢
Don’t worry, future video.
@@PERRINPerformanceShould have been in this video.
well this video was strically focused on the installation. The other video will be more product focused on design, material and sound
Finally a FMICP🙏
